A hint of fall!

Wow–it actually felt a little like fall this morning!  I was up early to let my cats out and was shocked to feel cool air outside!  It felt wonderful, and the kitties sure enjoyed it!  It’s a hint of fall–only a hint!  Normal August/September weather will return and hang around for a few more weeks, but now there’s something to look forward to!  FALL!!

When the seasons change, I always like to try new recipes, wear some different clothes, and go someplace new around town.  I’ve enjoyed visiting the Pearl Farmer’s Market over the last year since it opened.  It’s really grown and developed a loyal following.  It’s been an education for me to truly taste the difference between fresh produce and what I buy at the grocery store.  The Pearl complex is evolving, growing, and expanding, just like the Farmer’s Market.  There are some wonderful restaurants and stores there.   I have a friend who’s anxiously waiting to move into an apartment that’s currently under construction in the complex.

Last fall, I attended the San Antonio Herb Market.  It’s coming back to the Pearl complex on Saturday, October 16.  What a great venue to learn more about herbs and all the ways we can use them!  I highly recommend it for a fun Saturday morning.  Buy some plants and start your own garden!  Use them to season and flavor the farm fresh meats and veggies available at the farmer’s market.  Find out other ways to use them and get a head start on your Christmas gifts!  That hint of fall should actually be here in earnest by then!

If you can’t make it to the Pearl Farmer’s Market, there are plenty of other choices around town.  I’ve visited the Leon Springs Farmers Market near IH-10 and Boerne Stage Road and also the Legacy Market at 281/1604.  For a complete list of markets, hours, and locations, visit www.mysa.com, click on the Food tab, then scroll down the page to find a link.  For more information on the Pearl market, visit their website, www.PearlFarmersMarket.com.  You can find a list of their vendors there also–some of them have shops around town and I’ve visited them after sampling their wares at the Pearl.

Hope you have fun exploring some of the options for really fresh food!  It really does taste better and I have to think it’s better for you too!   I even get inspired to cook more!  Try it–I bet you’ll like it!!

Best,

Sue
